Although Asus announced quite a few products at the Consumer Electronics Show 2013, there were no Android tablets unveiled until today.
It looks like the company is determined to compete with Google’s Nexus 7, which is a hard to come by tablet these days.
In this regard, Asus announced the upcoming availability of the MeMO Pad, a 7-inch tablet powered by Jelly Bean.
According to the company, Asus MeMO Pad will be launched in the United States in April for a suggested retail price of $150/ €110. Customers will be able to choose from three color options, Sugar White, Titanium Gray and Cherry Pink.
Even though Asus did not unveil any details regarding the MeMO Pad’s availability in other countries, the company claims the tablet will be launched in January in "several emerging markets" from authorized ASUS resellers.
Aside from the fact that it’s powered by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, the MeMO Pad comes equipped with a VIA WM8950 SoC (system on chip).
This SoC packs a 1GHz single-core processor and a Mali-400 graphics processing unit. The slate also features 1GB of RAM, 8GB or 16GB of internal memory, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).
It is also worth mentioning that the slate comes with 5GB of free cloud storage via Asus WebStorage. The MeMO Pad provides access to more than 700,000 apps and games via Google Play Store, but also features some pre-installed Asus applications, including SuperNote Lite, Asus Studio, BuddyBuzz, MyPainter and MyBitCast.
Asus MeMO Pad sports a 7-inch LED-backlit capacitive touchscreen display with 1024 x 600 resolution, 140-degree wide viewing angles and 350-nit brightness.
There’s also a front-facing 1-megapixel camera with HD (720p) video recording, Wi-Fi support, and a 4270 mAh Li-Polymer battery, which is rated by the manufacturer for up to 7 hours of continuous usage.
