Google has just made Google Maps even cooler by introducing a brand new planet to explore and even our very own Moon.
“While you pretty much have to be a rocket scientist to make a trip to outer space, you don’t have to be an astronaut to explore Mars or the Moon – now you can take a virtual tour from your desktop on Google Maps,” reads the company’s message to users.
Basically, all you have to do is open maps.google.com just like you normally do, and make sure you make the change to “Earth” view from the bottom left corner. From there, all you have to do is scroll out as much as you can. As the Earth becomes a dark circle on your screen, with the beautiful Milky Way strip behind it, you’ll now notice two new options in the bar that usually holds various photos from locations near the place you’re looking for.
One is the Moon, while the other is Mars. Clicking on either of them will take you to a new world. Once in the new locations, you’ll be able to scroll in, turn the Moon or Mars around and check out additional information about the various mounts and valleys peppering the surface.
You can even do a bit of work and go looking for Curiosity’s location on Mars if you want to, but the little robot isn’t marked on the map unfortunately.
